Spring Baltimore Update
The year is flying by. It’s tough when coin shows are bunched together. We had Long Beach, Mid-Winter ANA and the Baltimore Spring Show back-to-back to back. We opted to attend Baltimore due to the past strength of the show. This year was not a disappointment. The show itself was very strong. We sold a lot of our top-quality retail coins and marginal wholesale coins all to dealers. We left the show before the public came in on Thursday. It’s almost like the old days. Dealers and collectors are looking for nice numismatic coins again. All three of the back-to-back shows were very strong. Long Beach is under new ownership and being run very efficiently. The hall has been downsized to accommodate mainly coin and currency dealers. If this show is an indication, Long Beach could return to its’ glory days. I heard that the Mid-Winter show was strong even though many of the east coast dealers could not attend due to a snow storm. I’ve never really had a good Mid-Winter show so we opted out. To me, as long as we can find nice coins, this should be a really good year for numismatics the demand is there but the supply of top quality for the grade isn’t. Limited supply and increased demand should lead to pluses on the Greysheet. We’ll wait and see.
How to crash a website
Lately, we’ve noticed that very few dealers are posting $20 Saints and Libs. for sale especially in CAC. The old better dates pop-up occasionally but where are the bread and butter 64 and 65 CAC coins? We decided to post some on our website (RCNH.com) and we were inundated with so many orders that our site crashed on multiple days! Now under normal circumstances that is a good problem to have. However, we found that out of hundreds of orders, most were ordered with stolen credit cards. I’m not sure if that’s a reason why dealers aren’t posting $20’s on their sites or if they really don’t have any inventory. I believe for us it boiled down to 4 or 5 legitimate orders out of hundreds. Talk about a disappointment! You try to make a fair and honest living and there are hundreds of people trying to steal from you. What a reflection on our society. We are a small size dealer with hundreds of thieves crashing our site in the hope of ill-gotten gains. Fellow dealers, please be aware and be careful. We use a screening service for our credit cards and many were approved as being legitimate that weren’t. It really is disheartening. Now its seller beware.
We are forced to temporarily suspend our online credit card service due to the grotesque fraud that we are currently experiencing. If you wish to order by credit card please call our toll-free 800 number and we will be happy to service you personally and process your order.
